Welcome to Littleton

The town of Littleton was incorporated in 1856 from earlier land grants to Framingham Academy and Williams College around 1800 and thrived as an agricultural center, primarily growing potatoes. “Josiah Little bought the Williams portion sometime before 1840 and the town is named after him”. (McCauley p.100 – The Names of Maine) Today Littleton is home to the government of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the original inhabitants of this area, and potatoes remain an important crop for local farmers.
