Maine Forestry Museum

Here you will learn all about the history of Rangeley as a crucial logging center in the state of Maine! They have hundreds of artifacts for you to see, ask questions about them, too!

Hunter Cove Wildlife Sanctuary

The Hunter Cove Wildlife Sanctuary features 1.5 miles of easy, flat trails with several different paths along Rangeley Lake with several benches for relaxing or picnicking.

Shelton Noyes Overlook

The lesser-known Shelton Noyes Overlook is a beautiful scenic overlook located along Route 17 with panoramic views of Rangeley Lake and the surrounding areas.

Height of Land

Height of Land is a must-see view before you leave the Rangeley area. It overlooks Richardson Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake; the White Mountains are in the distance, as well!

Smalls Falls

This waterfall glows with warmth in the sunlight, and offers swimming holes for your family to enjoy, or however large a group! Set up your picnic in a comfortable spot and enjoy your lunch!

Quill Hill

Accessed from Oddy’s Road on Route 16

Breathtaking 360-degree views are what attract visitors from all over the Northeast to Quill Hill. At an elevation of 2,848 feet, Quill Hill treats its visitors to views of many local landmarks in the distance!

Packing List

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.

  1. The Outdoor Heritage Museum houses some 10,000 year old Native American artifacts!
  2. Smalls Falls has two different falls, one right above the other, that each fall to their own swimming hole at the bottom!
  3. Smalls Falls total drop height is 54 feet!
  4. Rangeley Lake State Park consists of a total of 869 acres of land in Western Maine!
  5. The Maine Forestry Museum has HUNDREDS of artifacts for you to learn about.
  6. The Oquossoc Grocery Store also often has freshly cooked and ready-to-eat meals!
  7. Oddy’s Road is a 4-mile dirt road that leads you to Quill Hill!
  8. Quill Hill has a fully functional wood burning grill for you to bring and cook your own food on!
