Scholarship Release of Information
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the right to privacy and confidentiality of student records. The University of Maine makes every effort to protect students’ privacy. Scholarship donors appreciate knowing the students who directly benefit from their scholarship funds. By allowing the University to release your name, directory and academic information, you are helping us to connect donors with our students. This simple act helps to ensure that more UMaine students will continue to benefit from these generous gifts.
The University of Maine depends on the generosity of our scholarship donors. Many donors appreciate hearing directly from the students who benefit from their scholarships. This communication helps donors understand the positive impact of their generosity. As a result, we ask all scholarship recipients to write a letter of appreciation upon request.
We would also like to share this information with the offices and organizations that work hard to raise scholarship funds for UMaine students and for publicity releases. Your cooperation with the efforts of the Alumni Association and the University of Maine Foundation fundraising will help to increase the funds available to assist current and future UMaine students with their education.
