Application Timeline and Funding

The application deadline is Jan. 15. Admission and funding decisions are made in early March.

Prospective graduate students must submit their application to the School of Economics throughthe UMaine Graduate School. A complete application includes:

  • The application form
  • State of Purpose describing your economic research interests, related experience, career goals, and why our program is a good fit; roughly 1-2 pages long in a 12-point font with the line-spacing at 1.5-2.0.
  • Resume/CV
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate grades (unofficial transcripts are sufficient for the initial review).
  • Required test scores (including English proficiency for international students).
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • The application fee

You must click submit for the application to be sent to us for review.

SOE offers a limited number of graduate assistantships for exceptional applicants. These assistantships provide a monthly stipend and may include other benefits (e.g., tuition waiver, UMaine health insurance coverage, etc.). The details of these assistantships will be provided to successful applicants in their offer letters. To be considered for an assistantship, check the appropriate box on the graduate school application. No other action is required.

Tips for a successful application:

  • Good grades in undergraduate Economics and Math courses
  • A well written statement of purpose that is aligned with SOE programs
  • Strong letters of recommendation
  • Application is complete and submitted on time
