Daryne Rocket, MSW ’04, LCSW, CBIB was the keynote speaker for a Lunch and Learn Program – A Circle of Hands: The Impact of Gratitude & Art in the Healing Process from Traumatic Brain Injury. ude & Art in the Healing Process from Traumatic Brain Injury.
Daryne Rockett graduated from the UMaine School of Social Work in 2004 and began working at the Sanford Vet Center as a clinical social worker that summer, transferring to their Bangor office where she has worked for the past 13 years. She is a Celtic harper, singer, songwriter and Certified Music Practitioner, using music as part of her social work practice with Veterans and at the bedside of the sick and dying. Five years ago, on January 5th, 2014, Daryne sustained a brain injury during roller derby practice, which resulted in an extensive medical leave of absence and a long journey of recovery. Unable to tolerate music, she turned to “doodling” as a means of healing and recovery, exploring an entirely new means of creative expression in the visual arts. She became a Certified Brain Injury Specialist three years ago, and has returned to full time practice at the Bangor Vet Center where she works with combat Veterans, military sexual trauma survivors, and their families using mindfulness and creative expression as cornerstones of her practice. Daryne’s amazing artwork is currently on display at the Wilson Center, College Avenue, the University of Maine.
