How often are RA/CAs on duty?
RA/CAs are on duty about once every other week and one weekend a month. This varies from complex to complex but is equitable across campus.
When do RA/CAs need to be on campus?
RA/CAs must to be on campus for a variety of events that require them to be on campus before all other students get here as well as being here after all students have left. If hired be sure to check the job description for all dates that are required.
How much do RA/CAs get paid?
RA/CAs receive Room and Board for the duration of the time working for Residence Life. The RA/CA position is considered a scholarship and will be adjusted to financial aid as such. It may change your financial aid package so be sure to check your MaineStreet account regularly.
I plan on studying abroad in the spring semester. Can I still be an RA/CA?
The RA/CA positions are a full year commitment. Studying abroad is an excellent opportunity, but you will not be able to be an RA/CA.
Can RA/CAs choose which hall they work in?
During the application and interview process students can give a preference to which hall they would like to work in. However, placement in your preferred complex is not guaranteed and is non-negotiable. Placement of RA/CAs is based on the strengths of the candidates and the need of the student population.
What is the minimum GPA for RA/CAs?
Current RA/CAs, as well as RA/CA applicants are required to maintain at minimum GPA of 2.5 both cumulative and semesterly.
Is there a residential requirement to be an RA/CA?
Yes, students who are applying to be an RA/CA must have lived in a residential setting for a minimum of 2 semesters by the time you would start the position. It can be from any college campus or other suitable community living style.
How many hours a week do RA/CAs work?
On average RA/CAs work 20 hours a week, although there are times when the position requires more than that, but Residence Life as a department does try to give as much warning ahead of time so RA/CAs can prepare.
Can RA/CAs have a second job?
Yes, RA/CAs are allowed to have a second job provided that it does not interfere with the RA/CA position and isn’t more than 20 hours a week.
How often can RA/CAs take time off?
While we expect RA/CAs to be around the halls and visible on a daily basis we do recognize that you will also need to take a break. RA/CAs are allowed to take up to four nights (weekend or weeknight) a month off. All time off must be approved through a supervisor or lead RA/CA prior to taking time off.
How will I know how to confront issues?
RA/CAs receive training at the beginning of each semester and we give you plenty of tools that will help you confront a variety of issues.
