Yarborough speaks to PPH about wild blueberry crop

David Yarborough, professor emeritus of horticulture at the School of Food and Agriculture and emeritus wild blueberry specialist at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, spoke to the Portland Press Herald for an article reporting that the size of Maine’s wild blueberry harvest dropped by 26%, or 27.5 million pounds, in 2022 after hitting a near-record harvest the previous year. “With wild blueberries, that variability is much greater, so the risk is much greater … we’re really at the mercy of Mother Nature,” Yarborough said.
