Earth Week to feature keynote speaker, other awareness events

Earth Week 2018 at the University of Maine will take place April 16–22, and will include various events and activities focused on themes of sustainability and environmental awareness.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Madelyn Woods from the Marine & Environmental Research Institute, who will present her research in a talk titled “Microplastics in the Gulf of Maine” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. April 18 in the Bangor Room of the Memorial Union.

Many events will be held on campus and in Bangor throughout the rest of the week, including a Saturday festival and a monthlong Plastic Straw Challenge.

Earth Week is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, Auxiliary Services and the Green Campus Initiative.
