UMaine Researcher in Story on Coral Research
UMaine Professor of Marine Sciences Malcolm Shick was mentioned in an Agence France Press wire service story about the study of underwater coral reefs that could lead to a pill that would prevent sunburn. Shick is collaborating on the project with scientists from England and Australia, who discovered a compound which acts as a kind of sunscreen for coral and algae. The wire story was picked up by many news outlets in Great Britain, including BBC News, AOL Lifestyle UK, Marie Claire UK, and the Guardian newspaper.
