Thermal Radiation in the Quantum Regime

There is an open position for a Ph.D. student in the Thermal Radiation Laboratory directed by Dr. Sheila Edalatpour. The Ph.D. student will perform a theoretical and experimental study of thermal radiation and radiative heat transfer in the quantum regime, where the size of the heat exchanging media or their separation distance approaches atomic length scales and thus quantum mechanical effects on heat transfer cannot be ignored.

The successful applicant should be willing and able to work on a multidisciplinary project at the interface of mechanical engineering and physics. Background on or ability to learn solid state physics and quantum mechanics is required.

Engineering Physics students with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering are highly encouraged to apply. If you have any questions or are interested in this position, please contact Dr. Edalatpour at sheila.edalatpour@maine.edu.
