Teaching

Dr. Leslie has taught courses in Coastal Ecology & Conservation, Marine Conservation Science & Policy, and Environmental Scholarship & Communication at multiple universities. She has supervised 24 undergraduate theses, 15 graduate theses, and 7 postdoctoral research associates.

As Director of the Darling Marine Center (2015-2023), she was responsible for coordinating the courses taught as part of the residential undergraduate Semester by the Sea and developing new opportunities for graduate and undergraduate education at the University of Maine’s marine laboratory. She taught the SBS seminar, SMS 350, which focused on professional development and life after graduation and also offers special topics graduate courses in marine conservation science.

When Dr. Leslie returns from sabbatical in Fall 2024, she will be teaching new graduate and undergraduate courses in marine ecosystem-based management and conservation science. She also will recruit undergraduate researchers to her group to work on an array of locally and globally significant marine conservation topics. Students interested in conducting a capstone with Dr. Leslie at the DMC are encouraged to contact Dr. Leslie with an email with the subject ‘Fall 2024 capstone’ no earlier than June 1, 2024.
