HTY 251: Technology and Society from Ancient Time till the Present

Description:  A much revised combination of two previous courses that will examine the evolution of technology from its beginnings until the twenty-first century. The focus will be on the relationships between technology and society, culture, economics, and politics. The course thus is not an old-fashioned “nuts and bolts” survey but rather will concentrate on Western technology, though non-Western technology also will be discussed. No prerequisites nor technical background are required. The course welcomes students from the humanities, the social sciences, the sciences, and engineering.
