NHD 2016 in Review

The dust has settled and the results of the 2016 state and national NHD contests have been analyzed. Maine students did a remarkable job this year.

Nearly 100 more students registered for the April 2016 state contest in Orono than the previous year. We expanded our contest space from UMaine’s Wells Conference Center, Fogler Library, and Stevens Hall to also include the Page Farm Museum.

Ultimately, 53 first and second place state contest winners chose to participate in the national contest at the University of Maryland in June 2016. The most impressive statistic from the national contest is that one third of all entries from Maine were ranked third place or higher in their judging groups! Some impressive individual and team accomplishments include:

  • Madison Albert of Greely Middle School won the Women’s History Award for the second year in a row. This means that Maine has received a national award for three years running!
  • Jamie Richardson of Hartford Sumner Elementary School was a finalist in the Individual Website category and earned Outstanding Junior State Entry.
  • Cody Roy, Devon Poisson, Dylan Goff, Abbey Allen, and Maddie Amero of Monmouth Academy were named Outstanding Senior State Entry Award.
