how we work
The University of Maine’s Green Campus Initiative (GCI) educates students about sustainability within campus housing, dining, and Auxiliary Enterprises operations. Supported by Auxiliary Enterprises, GCI employs students and engages volunteers to promote its mission.
GCI actively participates in key campus events, including New Student Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Move-In Day, the President’s Welcome Dinner, Maine Day, and Zero Waste Barbecues. At these events, our team provides composting and recycling education and offers hands-on support to foster a sustainable campus community.

Creating & distributing sustainability-related publications & documents
Creating & administering programs for campus community members
Creating proposals for new sustainable programs & any other GCI tasks as needed
ready to apply?
The ideal candidates will be reliable and self-motivated with proven abilities to produce results with little supervision. Please note, we expect one year of commitment as a minimum. This opportunity would start at the end of August and run until the end of the spring semester.
