Dr. Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence: Exploring the Ocean in the 21st Century

Dr. Sylvia Earle is President and Chairman of Mission Blue/The Sylvia Earle Alliance. She is a National Geographic Society Explorer in Residence, and is called Her Deepness by the New Yorker and the New York Times, Living Legend by the Library of Congress, and first Hero for the Planet by Time Magazine. She is an oceanographer, explorer, author and lecturer with experience as a field research scientist, government official, and director for several corporate and non-profit organizations.

This event is co-hosted by the University of Maine School of Marine Sciences; the Cultural Affairs and Distinguished Lecture Series; Dept. of Communication and Journalism, School of Earth and Climate Sciences, McGillicuddy Humanities Center, the College of Engineering, Phi Beta Kappa, the Honors College, the Maine Folklife Center,ME EPSCoR SEANET, Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Medicine, the Graduate Student Association, Sigma Xi, Maine Sea Grant, and the Maine Science Festival.
