Bio: Joan (Joanie) M. Speyer has worked in public education since 1970, following two years as Y-Teen Director in Bangor, Maine. She has been a high school English teacher, a middle school language arts teacher, an English department chair, a district curriculum coordinator and assistant curriculum coordinator, an administrator at an elementary school, and a retired education consultant, primarily in RSU 22 (Hampden, Frankfort, Newburgh and Winterport). Since 2009, Joanie has worked as an adjunct instructor for field observation and student teaching seminars, as well as supervising student teachers at the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. Her work for the college has also included writing and editing reports for the college’s 2014 reaccreditation and developing and revising assignments for EHD400 and EHD498. She has a B.A. and an M.Ed. in administration from the University of Maine. Reading, experimenting with new recipes, and staying in touch with family and friends keep her busy outside the educational arena.
