Yagmur Gunel: Outstanding Student in Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction

Yagmur is a high school art teacher in Maine. The focus of her research in the Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction program was “Understanding the relationship between prior knowledge and student achievement: Implementing formative assessment strategies to facilitate continuity in learning by resurfacing prior knowledge.”

Prior to receiving her master’s, Yagmur pursued K-12 teacher certification in Maine through UMaine College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She received her undergraduate degree from Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts in Turkey.

Yagmur’s teaching philosophy is to offer equity pedagogy with varied teaching methods to address the different learning styles of students. She offers diverse learning experiences and possibilities to explore and engage in art to help all students participate and succeed. She also seeks to educate students to work cooperatively with respect to individual differences.
