Karen Tetteh
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am an international student from Ghana currently in the 2nd year of my 2 year MSW Program.
I worked with street-connected teenage mothers in a vocational skill acquisition driven Non
Governmental Organization for about two years after graduation before coming to pursue a
MSW in America. I also have some experience working with college aged students from being a
site coordinator for the Big Brother Big Sister Mentorship of Mid Maine through the Bodwell
Center for Service and Volunteerism and also serving in the role of an Assistant Director for the
Summer RAD Camp at the New Balance Student Recreational Center.
What is your favorite comfort food?:
My favorite comfort food is definitely Spicy home-made seafood noodles. I love all things
seafood and it is a plus that I am not allergic.
If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?:
Definitely to Greece! Santorini to be precise. I don’t mind going to the Maldives as well. There
are so many holiday destinations in my mind. I am a pose and take a picture girlie so I definitely
appreciate some aesthetically pleasing holiday destinations.
Role in center:
MSW Intern
Areas of interest:
I am well invested in social work as a helping profession with therapeutic benefits and I am
particularly considering clinical social work related to in-patient pediatrics. For Spring 2024, I
enrolled in an Adult and Child Psychopathology Class and learnt about Mental Health and
Related Disorders as a category but I was drawn to the sub topic of neurodevelopmental
disorders and hence my career goal is to explore and better understand neurodevelopmental
disorders as a licensed MSW Clinician and how it affects cognitive development.
Degrees awarded
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Ghana.
