Nathan Fosse

About Me: I am “from away,” having grown up in Manhattan, Kansas, and later moving to Massachusetts
for graduate study in sociology. More recently, I completed my Master of Social Work at the
University of Maine and am licensed to practice clinical social work in the state of Maine. I
believe in meeting students where they are, helping them thrive, and advocating for social
justice. In my free time, you’ll find me exploring the woods and countryside, playing with my
cat, Rollo, or enjoying board games with friends and family.

My Favorite Quotes:
“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously.” – Sophia
Bush
“Justice is what love looks like in public.” – Cornel West

If You Could Take a Trip Anywhere in the World, Where Would You Go?:
It is difficult to pick one place, but I would love to visit Barcelona and view the sights, including
the remarkable architecture there.

What is your favorite comfort food?:
Pizza! My favorite is mushroom pizza but I will love anything as long as it is vegetarian!

Role in Center:
Licensed Therapist, Licensed Master of Social Work – Conditional Clinical.

Areas of Interest:
I approach challenges and solutions from a systems perspective, and I am interested in helping
students feel empowered through social connection and inclusion. My interests also include
mindfulness, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and SFT (Solution-Focused Therapy). I consider
myself a lifelong learner, and I am interested in ensuring that my approaches and areas of
interest evolve with evolving client and changing social contexts.

In academic settings, I am dedicated to contributing to a culture where students and feel safe
and empowered disclosing and overcoming academic anxieties and related challenges,
including test anxiety, perfectionism and feelings of not belonging (imposter syndrome). I am
also interested in helping students navigate the multiple social roles that come along with
university life, whether it involves balancing academic and employment obligations, adapting to
a new schedule or routine, or just trying to find ways to achieve balance . I believe learning is
for everyone, and I hope to foster a positive learning environment for students at the University
of Maine and beyond.
