Cassandra Rowan

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi! I’m Cassandra, and I’m a clinical psychology student intern at the counseling center during the 2024-25 academic year. I was born and raised in Atlanta but have lived up and down the East Coast throughout my life. I have been in Maine since I started graduate school in 2020, before which I lived in Vermont for many years. I constantly seek exploration and excitement. I love travel, meeting people, new hiking trails or ski slopes with scenic views, all different kinds of food, live music, a great television series, and tabletop role-playing games.

What has been your most embarrassing moment (either at work or play)?
:
My jr. high/high school was early to provide email accounts for all students, and our email
accounts came with what were essentially school-wide discussion boards/forums. When I was in
7 th grade, I thought I was very, very funny and made a bunch of posts with a whole series of
jokes, puns, riddles, and similar things—which were neither funny nor original. The response
from basically the rest of the school was… not the best, and I was reminded of that regularly for
the next several years.

What is your favorite food?:
Whatever the next thing I’m going to try that I haven’t had before is. But that aside, I love
anything that comes out of the water. I also enjoy extraordinarily spicy food, which is a little bit
hard to find in New England. I get all sorts of very hot peppers shipped from down south by
friends when I can.

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?:
My top choice answer changes by the hour. I have long had dreams of SCUBA diving at Silfra,
Iceland, which is in between tectonic plates. (I do not yet have a SCUBA certification.)

Role in center:
I’m an intern at the counseling center for the year, providing individual therapy.

Areas of interest:
Ultimately, I consider myself an integrative, person-centered therapist grounded in behavioral
and cognitive skills with elements of mindfulness and relational work. I’m trained in approaches
to trauma, and trauma-informed practices and motivational interviewing guide my approach
across modalities. I want my clients to know and to feel that I’m interested in helping them
identify and pursue their own goals rather than prescribing or dictating the course of our work
together.
I am also particularly interested in working with gender- and sexuality-diverse individuals, and
my academic interests center on confidentiality, informed consent, access to care, and
equitability of care, particularly for LGBTQIA+ youth.
