Began Conservation Science NRT Program Fall 2021

I was drawn to the NRT program because of the faculty, the projects trainees are carrying out, and the support that runs throughout the program and into the rest of the world!

I received a BS in Conservation Biology and a BA in Performance Arts with a minor in African Studies in 2014 from St. Lawrence University. Prior to coming to UMaine, I worked in environmental research and cartography with Adirondack Research and Green Goat Maps in the Adirondack Park in New York. My current research looks at the proposed net-pen salmon farm in Frenchman Bay off the coast of Mount Desert Island and community sense of risk associated with the farm. I’ve lived in Kenya and China and carried out environmental research in both countries, studying human-wildlife connections and how to connect scientists and farmers. I am interested in communicating science to the public in ways that feel accessible, non-biased, and informative while still connecting personally with a “lay” audience as an environmental writer and journalist.
