Teaching Grand Rounds Community of Practice

In Person

Alternate Tuesdays from 9:00-10:00 AM, starting January 24th.

Teaching Grand Rounds* can be thought of as “a form of pedagogical education consisting of presenting teaching problems and solutions to an audience of diverse educators for feedback and improvement.”

What is it?

An informal learning community that experiments with and observes new strategies for student engagement and assessment. Part demonstration, part learning, part community – this program aims to 1) provide a platform for faculty to practice and get feedback on using innovative student-centered teaching methods in their teaching; 2) provide a lens of equity through which to evaluate teaching strategies and; 3) create a more open community around observing and critiquing teaching practices in an informal supportive setting.

How will it work?

Four adults (perhaps faculty) sit in a circle at student desks. There are three women and one man, all looking in the same direction and smiling.

Each session will be facilitated by different participants.  During this time, participants will provide some background on the teaching strategy, specify the type of feedback requested, and then will ‘run a class’ with members of the community present as participants and observers.  For example, if you have been using a fishbowl debate with little success, run it during Grand Rounds as you have in your class,  to generate feedback from participants.  Conversely, if you are working on new teaching strategies or practices to use in your classroom, you can use this space to fine-tune your approach.

As this program will depend on building community, if you register for this program, please commit to attending at least six of the eight meetings listed below.  By signing up for this CoP you are also agreeing to lead a demonstration for the other participants.
