New report by President’s Council reviews future of AI, Quantum and STEM areas
In June, 2020, the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology released a new report titled, “Recommendations for Strengthening American Leadership in Industries of the Future: A Report to the President of the United States of America.”
The report summarizes a broad review of policy recommendations based on different reports from three sub-committees: Industries of the Future (IotF) is chaired by Dario Gil (Director of Research for IBM); Meeting STEM Education and Workforce Needs, chaired by Catherine Bessant (CTO of Bank of America), and New Models of Engagement for Federal/National Laboratories in the Multi-Sector R&D Enterprise, chaired by Dr. A.N. Sreeram (SVP and CTO of Dow Corporation.)
The report calls on Federal agencies to take greater advantage of their abilities to partner with industry and academia in new ways. Within the field of Artificial Intelligence Research (AI), this includes “establishing a joint AI Fellow-in-Residence program, AI Research Institutes in all 50 States, National AI Testbeds, partnerships for curating and sharing large datasets, and joint international programs for attracting and retaining the best global talent, and research and development (R&D) and training for trustworthy AI.”
