The Community Coordinator position at The University of Maine

The University of Maine and the Department of Residence Life invite applications for the position of Community Coordinator.  We are seeking creative and innovative professionals whose charge will be to develop an engaging and comprehensive living learning community in a designated residential area.

The Department of Residence Life engages students through vibrant learning communities to create experiences that inspire academic and personal success.  As such, the primary functions of the Community Coordinator are to create and manage a comprehensive and engaging campus experience for students in residence.  He/She fosters an environment that supports the academic and personal development of all residents in a diverse community.  He/She is expected to blend office hours and in-hall hours into a schedule that creates availability and frequent contact with both staff and students.  The Community Coordinator serves as a positive role model within the campus community.  He/She will actively and positively support the mission, philosophy, and programs of the department and the institution.  Persons in this position are expected to exercise creativity, be highly visible, and will be substantially involved in campus life.

As a member of the Residence Life staff, each Community Coordinator is also a professional staff member within the Division of Student Affairs.  Community Coordinators hold live-in, full-time positions supervising up to two Graduate Assistants and a staff of 7-16 Resident Assistants, while managing all residential aspects of an area housing between 300 and 610 students.  Communities vary in physical size, structure, student population, and programmatic emphasis.

Typically has the education associated with a Master’s Degree in Higher Education or closely related field; Bachelor’s with significant full-time Residence Life experience will be considered.  Preferred requirements include previous live-in experience in Residence Life, as well as experience with staff supervision, student development, area management, program coordination, student conduct, advising and crisis intervention, and an understanding of student learning philosophy. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

This is a full-time eleven (11) month position.  Anticipated salary range is $23,455 to $41,276 with a normal hiring range of $23,455 to $27, 117, and includes an attractive benefits package including tuition waiver program.  Residing on campus is a requirement of the position, and a furnished or unfurnished apartment is provided along with a meal plan.  The value of room and board for this position is $8,348.  Appropriate background checks will be required of the successful candidate.
