Adaptive Management for Habitat Restoration:
An Introductory Workshop for Natural Resource Managers

January 9, 2013
University of Maine

Adaptive management is an iterative learning process that results in improved understanding and management over time.  It is a decision process that promotes structured yet flexible decision making that can be adjusted in the face of uncertainties. It can also be adjusted as outcomes from management actions and other events become better understood through monitoring.

Overview
DSRRN offered a one-day workshop to introduce natural resource managers to the principles and practices of adaptive management (AM) and to the ways this structured decision making approach can be applied to diadromous species restoration in the northeastern US. The workshop leaders devoted the morning to an overview of the fundamental components of AM.  In the afternoon, participants were divided into three working groups, with each group addressing a different, participant-selected case study.
