Policies and Procedures
Note: Listed below is a synopsis of important Intramural Sports Policies and Procedures. For a more detailed explanation, please refer to the Intramural Sports Program Managers’ Manual.
Rosters and Roster Additions
- Team Sports: A team’s roster is formed throughout the regular season. All players participating in a game must be listed on the game’s scorecard. The players who are listed will be entered onto that team’s roster. The manager/captain is responsible for ensuring that each scorecard, including the roster, is complete and accurate (i.e., all team members who participated in that game are listed on the scorecard). Names of individuals can be added to the original roster, prior to the new team member playing, by listing the player’s name as well as his/her ID number on the scorecard. A player must participate in at least one regular season game to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
- Tournaments: A team’s roster can be built over the course of the preliminary rounds of the tournament. As in team sports, the individuals listed on the scorecards constitute a team’s roster. Managers are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the scorecards. In tournament events, roster additions may be made through the quarterfinal games.
- Individual, Dual, and Team Meets: For meets, a team must submit its roster prior to the event, and prior to the roster deadline if one is set. Rosters may not be modified after the roster deadline.
Eligibility
- Sport Club members and Intercollegiate Athletes: Teams that have Sport Club members and/or current/former intercollegiate athletes on their rosters should check the Intramural Sports Program Managers’ Manual for restrictions on these participants.
- Transgender Athletes: A participant’s gender identity will be applied when there are gender-specific leagues or divisions, rules, and/or player ratio requirements for co-rec divisions. Transgender individuals may play on the team that best matches their self identified gender.
Forfeits:
- Teams that show up later than 15 minutes after scheduled start will be assessed a forfeit, loss for the contest and will be declared ineligible for the playoffs.
- A forfeit is defined as a contest not played because a team does not show up, or if the contest is not played because of lack of players. A forfeit can be avoided if the shorthanded team picks up independent players before the 15 minutes have elapsed and then they can play a modified contest while receiving an automatic loss.
- Teams must be fully ready to play within 5 minutes of the scheduled contest start time. Games starting between the 5-15 minute grace period due to one team not being ready will result in an automatic loss for the violating team; however a time modified game will occur. The violating team will still be playoff eligible.
Sportsmanship Rating (where applicable)
- The officials shall rate each team in each contest. A team begins an Intramural Sport contest or event with a total of 5 sportsmanship points. A meet has a total of 5 sportsmanship points, based on the conduct of the team for the duration of the meet. During the course of the contest, teams may lose points in their behavior deteriorates. It is not possible to receive a sportsmanship rating zero or below.
- Playoffs: In order to be eligible for playoffs, a team must average a sportsmanship score of 4 or higher for the regular season. Once in playoffs, a team must receive 4 points or higher in each contest in order to advance to the next round. Should a team win a playoff game, but receives a sportsmanship rating below 4, their opponent shall advance if they earned a qualifying sportsmanship rating.
