Mentoring - Faculty Mentoring Awards

The Rising Tide Center introduced the Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award in 2014 to honor an outstanding faculty mentor who has committed to supporting the professional development of  junior colleagues and to serving as a role model in creating a positive and supportive work environment.

Meet Sandra Sigmon, recipient of the 2013-2014 Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award.

“During my interview for a tenure-track position in the department of psychology, I was immediately struck by Sandy’s engaging style and clear commitment to fostering early career academics. It was clear that Sandy was deeply vested in seeing young faculty, particularly women, develop successful, well-balanced careers. My brief interaction with Sandy and the possibility of working with her was a significant factor in my decision to accept a position at the University of Maine.”
Emily Haigh, Assist. Professor, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program

3. Helps to create a vital and engaged academic community in their unit and at the University of Maine.
