Research and Teaching Interests: Jennie is an instructor for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies as well as an assistant professor in the Honors College. Jennie has had a long held passion for the study of media and popular culture. She has spoken on topics such as the juxtaposition of class, gender, and fashion at the Berks Conference on the History of Women and Organization of American Historians annual conference and the cross culture of feminism and television at the Popular Culture Association meeting. She is currently working on a manuscript for the University of Illinois Press entitled Fashion Forward: Elizabeth Hawes and Feminist Fashion Identity (working title). This research details the life of fashion designer and intellectual, Elizabeth Hawes, whose early career as high-end fashion designer in 1930s New York stands in stark contrast to her later work as a union organizer and bestselling author.
