Hiking

- There is a dedicated parking lot for the Appalachian Trail on Route 27 about 5 miles south of Stratton. From this parking lot, you can cross the road and hike the AT across the Bigelow Preserve ridge or head towards Sugarloaf and Rangeley.

- The Bigelow Preserve is a 36,000-acre natural area great for hiking, biking, etc. The entrance in Stratton is at the very end of School Street.

- A moderate to advanced difficulty trail that is 9.2 miles in length, which starts in Eustis and connects to the Appalachian Trail.

Historic

- This classic building houses a wonderful collection of artifacts, pictures, furniture, and more of the Dead River area including the lost villages of Flagstaff Lake. The Flagstaff and Dead River villages were lovely mountain towns with farms, schools, and general stores. The villages disappeared when the valley was flooded to bring in hydro-electric power.

- Everyone wants to see a moose. We have found that the best place to do this is to take a drive down Route 16 from Stratton to Rangeley at either dusk or dawn. We often see moose along this road, but be careful!
