The UMaine School of Performing Arts Division of Theatre and Dance presents the musical A Man of No Importance by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, and Terrence McNally, directed by Cary Libkin.

A Man of No Importance tells the story of an amateur theatre group in 1960s Dublin and their leader, bus driver Alfie Byrne. Determined to stage a production of Oscar Wilde’s Salome despite the objections of local church authorities, Alfie confronts the forces of bigotry and shame over a love “that dare not speak its name.” This evocative and award-winning musical illustrates the redemptive power of theater, love, and friendship, all for a man of seemingly no importance.

Live in the Hauck Auditorium on the University of Maine campus.

Performances November 12-13 and 18-20 at 7:30 pm, with matinees on November 14 and 21 at 2:00 pm.

Tickets: $12 or free with student MaineCard.

Supported in part by grants from the Cultural Affairs/Distinguished Lecture Series Fund and the Mark and Marcia Bailey Fund.
