MUL 101.0990 – The Art of Listening to Music

MUL 101 is an introductory level course intended for the general university student. Emphasis will be on developing listening skills and providing information that will increase understanding and enjoyment of all styles of music. We will listen and, as often as possible, see performances of substantial amounts of music using various media. We will cover music and its development from the 11th century to the present, focusing on Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century music. Becoming a skilled listener requires practice over time. Donâ??t wait until the night of the exam to begin! This is an inter-disciplinary course wit appropriate referenced to all the arts and history in general. Lectures will be open the 1st day of classes and not before then. I recommend that you view two lectures per week.
