Forest Biomaterials Innovation Center
Maine Forest Fiber – Providing Sustainable Solutions to Packaging and Building Products
INNOVATION
This center will house the equipment and resources to process wood residuals, chips, and fibers into in-demand sustainable products, largely packaging. This collaborative space will allow researchers and entrepreneurs to work together to take their ideas from bench to pilot scale and beyond.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
We will also include learning spaces to inspire K-12 students to seek careers in industries that use forest-based products, as well as offer programs to upskill workers.
INDUSTRY 4.0
Procure equipment for the Forest Biomaterials Innovation Center to enable researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry to demonstrate – at scale – forest-based innovations to support sustainable products in support of a national circular economy. The four main application areas we’re aiming to accelerate industry adoption are: 1) fiberboard production, 2) packaging applications, 3) biomedical applications, and 4) composites
