PDC Jack-o-Lantern Competition

This workshop gives students, faculty, community members, and others the opportunity to play with cellulose nanofibrils. It will be an open-house style from 3pm-5pm on Tuesday, October 1st in the Jenness Hall lobby and everyone will be given a kit to take home. Once you finished crafting your jack-o-lantern, submit it into our competition to be judged on October 30st. There will be several cash prizes for the top CNF jack-o-lantern creators! If you can’t make it to the workshop, we will have extra kits available. Please reach out us at: umaine.pdc@maine.edu

Workshop Details:

  • Tuesday, October 1st between 3-5pm (open house style)
  • Jenness Hall lobby
  • Free kits and cash prizes!

Research

Cellulose Nanomaterials for Research

The UMaine Process Development Center supplies cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) to academic, public, and private research groups interested in evaluating and developing applications for these materials.  Cellulose nanomaterial varies on the amount (from 0.25 pounds to metric tons) and solids content (dry, 15%, 3%).

We offer several types of cellulose nanomaterials:

  • CNF – cellulose nanofibers
  • CNC – cellulose nanocrystals
  • TOCN – Tempo-oxidized cellulose nanofibers

Nanocellulose Projects at UMaine

The Process Development Center is the only facility in the United States that can manufacture cellulose nanofibers (CNF) at a rate of one ton per day.

With this capacity, the PDC has been utilizing CNF in various projects throughout the University. To learn more about nanocellulose, and what innovations the University of Maine is pursuing with this technology, visit the Nanocellulose Valley website
