Revision of Core Writing Intensive Rubric

Faculty Senate Motion SM 24011 (Apr 2024) established a new process for ongoing review and revision of the Core rubrics that serves as the primary assessment tool for the Core curriculum. This revised process is necessary to ensure the rubrics function as a meaningful tool for measuring learning specified in the Core learning outcomes. The change in the Core learning outcomes resulting from Faculty Senate Motion SM 25007 (Apr 2025), prompted OIRA to review all existing rubrics for alignment with the new outcomes. Because the outcomes for the Writing Intensive category changed more than any other category,  the associated rubric became the highest priority for revision. The revision work has started this semester, and is being co-led by Heather Falconer (English) and Ryan Weatherbee (OIRA). A group of faculty who have recently taught in this Core area, and CITL, have agreed to serve on both a working group and a consulting group to help draft and review the new rubric. Our goal is to finalize, and start testing, the new rubric by the end of this semester.
