Amanda Savage, DNP, M.Ed., RN

Bio: Amanda Savage is new to the University of Maine as of August 2023. Amanda accepted a full-time Assistant Professor position in the School of Nursing. Amanda started her nursing career with a BSN from the University of Southern Maine, in 2007. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Saint Augustine in 2020 in Executive Leadership. Amanda is no stranger to education as she also has a Bachelors of Science (BS) in Athletic Training from the University of New England in 2001, where she also played basketball and softball, and a Masters of Education (M.Ed) in Exercise Physiology from the University of Maine Orono, where she was a graduate intern for campus recreation in 2003.

Her nursing career began on a Cardiothoracic step down unit which solidified her love for nursing and turned into seven total years at Maine Medical Center in Portland Maine in the Cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU). While in Portland, Amanda was a clinical adjunct for the University of Southern Maine from 2011-2015. In 2015, when their family relocated to Hampden, Maine, she moved into a leadership role as a House Manager at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Over the last eight years, Amanda’s passion for leadership, quality care, fostering our next generation nursing education, and bridging the gap for novice nurses during their transition to practice has shone through. Amanda worked at Husson University in Bangor, Maine from 2017-2023, where she led and integrated  simulation based learning before transitioning to an Assistant Professor position for the School of Nursing. During her time working in education for the last six years, Amanda believes that delivering nursing care to a client is an honor and teaching the future nurses of tomorrow is a privilege. She is excited to continue to apply this principle to her teaching role in order to shape the next generation of University of Maine nurses.

Outside of work, Amanda wears many hats! She is the President of the American Nurses Association of Maine (ANA-Maine) and also the President of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society (SIGMA).  Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband, Nate, their five children Noah, Lexy, Anderson, Gwendolyn, and Hamilton, plus their two dogs, a chocolate lab named Frank and a tea-cup great Dane named Baxter. When not on campus or in a clinical setting, you may find Amanda volunteering or coaching at one of the many kids sporting events, band, Girl Scout activities, running, reading, drinking coffee or adding items to her Amazon cart!
