Parking, road closure information announced for Maine Hello on Aug. 29
During Maine Hello, 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, new students will arrive on campus to move into their residence halls for the academic year.
High levels of traffic are expected on campus and through downtown Orono and Old Town. To accommodate for the event, the University of Maine will implement various parking lot closures, road closures and road changes throughout campus Aug. 27-29. UMaine employees are also encouraged to avoid Long Road and the surrounding area of campus while driving to and from work on Friday, Aug. 29.
Knox Hall Lot will be closed for one day only on Aug. 29.
The following parking areas will be closed Aug. 27-29:
- Jenness Lot North and South.
- Hilltop Lot.
- Somerset Lot.
- Part of Deering Lot.
- The Stewart Quad parking areas.
The following parking areas will have limited access:
- The Versant Astronomy Center (Hilltop Lot’s black section), which will be reserved for Hilltop employees only.
- The New Balance Recreation Center Lot, which will be open only to center patrons, Maine Hello volunteers and Hilltop employees who need ADA parking from Aug. 27–30.
- The Bridge Tennis Court Lot, which will be reserved for Welcome Weekend, Maine Hello volunteer, and ADA parking only from Aug. 23 to Sept.1.
- The Belgrade and Collins Center for the Arts lots, reserved for Maine Hello vehicles only, on Aug. 29.
Road closures and traffic pattern changes on Aug. 29 will include:
- Long Road between Androscoggin Road and Knox Lot, which will be closed both ways until 3 p.m.
- Flagstaff Road from Long Road, which will have one-way flow southbound across Flagstaff Road.
- Belgrade Road from Rangeley Road, which will have one-way flow westbound across Belgrade Road.
- Square Road in front of York Hall and York Lot, which will have one-way flow westbound.
