New Writing Series celebrates 25 years with live reading events this fall

The New Writing Series, sponsored by the University of Maine English Department in partnership with the Center for Poetry and Poetics, is hosting seven live reading events this fall to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Since its inception in 1999, more than 400 creative writers from a wide range of genres have participated in the series and performed live readings on the UMaine campus. This fall, the series will feature seven authors, each one introduced by a faculty member from the English Department.

Series readings are held on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. in the Fernald APPE Space (Room 104) at the UMaine Innovative Media and Research Commercialization Center in Stewart Commons. The next one on Oct. 10 will feature a reading from Keith Rosson, a fiction writer from Portland, Oregon who will be introduced by Jeremy Parker, a full-time lecturer in the UMaine English Department. Readings, which are free and open to the public, will be held through Nov. 14.

Other authors who will be featured this fall include Rod Moody-Corbett, introduced by assistant professor of creative writing Hollie Adams; Dawn Lundy Martin, introduced by professor of English Jennifer Moxley; Babak Lakghomi, introduced by associate professor of English Greg Howard; Daisy Fried, introduced by associate professor of English and department chair Steve Evans; and Nick Rees Gardner, introduced by assistant professor of English Morgan Talty.
