Publishing, Programming, and Promoting Poetry and Poetics from Modernism to the Present

The Center for Poetry and Poetics is an internationally recognized center for fostering the study of modern and contemporary poetry. The Center for Poetry and Poetics’ multifaceted mission helps to make the University of Maine’s English Department unique among American Universities. The Center’s activities, all related to modern poetry and poetics, include:

Publishing and editing of a scholarly journal devoted to twentieth and twenty-first century poetry and poetics.

Publishing books of and about modern and contemporary poetry.

Hosting international conferences and symposia on modern and contemporary poetry.

Co-sponsoring the English Department’s New Writing Series and serving as custodian of its archive.

Contributing to the English Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs and the cultural life of the community by sponsoring readings and residencies by well-known poets, classes and internships for students, and institutes and workshops designed for broad audiences including high school teachers and students.
