BDN interviews Dill on horsehair worms
The Bangor Daily News interviewed Jim Dill, a University of Maine Cooperative Extension associate program administrator in pest management, on horsehair worms, a parasite that attacks arthropods and is found in still or slow moving water. Dill said there are several species of the worm and their life cycles aren’t fully understood. The worms enter their insect hosts through the water, use the host to gain nutrients and mature, then trick the host into drowning before they escape back into water.
