UMaine students named finalists for national nutrition research competitions
Two Ph.D. students from the University of Maine School of Food and Agriculture are finalists in upcoming research competitions held by the American Society for Nutrition from June 29-July 2 during their flagship meeting in Chicago, NUTRITION 2024.
Amelia Sullivan is a finalist for the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Poster Competition, and Leigh Neptune is a finalist for the Young Investigators Underrepresented in Nutrition Award Competition.
Nearly 900 abstracts were submitted by students and postdoctoral fellows for the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Poster Competition, which will recognize the top 10%. Sullivan is competing with her abstract, titled “‘Give us fresh fruit.’ Students’ Perceptions of the School Food Environment Compared to Skin Carotenoid Levels.”
Six finalists, including Neptune, were chosen for the Young Investigators Underrepresented in Nutrition Award Competition from 37 applicants. Neptune’s abstract is titled “Food Insecurity Worsens on College Campuses Following the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
