Maine Monitor cites UMaine study in article about salamanders
In an article about road salt impacting Maine salamanders, The Maine Monitor cited a 2022 assessment of statewide road salt practices done by researchers at the University of Maine which shows that while the Maine Department of Transportation pre-wets its salt, most municipalities don’t, even though simply wetting the mixture before it’s applied dramatically reduces the amount that winds up in the ditch and impacts wildlife.
