Media report on Gov. Mills climate change conference at UMaine
Maine Public, Mainebiz, News Center Maine, the Bangor Daily News, the Portland Press Herald and WABI (Channel 5) reported on Gov. Janet Mills’s recent conference at the University of Maine, where she announced new climate change funding initiatives and celebrated the one-year anniversary of Maine’s four-year climate plan, Maine Won’t Wait. During the gathering, Mills recognized the regional climate planning partnership between UMaine, the town of Orono, the City of Bangor and Husson University to address climate change in the Bangor area. Ivan Fernandez, a University of Maine professor of soil science and forest resources, spoke during the conference. “We experience increasing frequency and intensity of storm events, and heat waves, drought, ticks and Lyme disease as part of our daily lives and more,” said Fernandez, also co-chair of the Maine Climate Council’s Scientific and Technical Subcommittee. “We live it everyday. This is not something that we are talking about in the future.” UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy was also in attendance. “We are pleased to welcome Governor Mills to Orono to mark one year of progress in Maine’s plan for climate action and to recognize the regional climate planning partnership we have formed with the town of Orono, the city of Bangor and Husson University,” she said in a statement.
