Newburyport Daily News cites UMaine lobster research in editorial
University of Maine lobster research was cited in a Newburyport Daily News editorial that criticized Sweden’s request of the European Union to ban the import of American lobsters.
“Research by New England marine biologists from the University of Maine maintains that live lobsters have been exported around the world for decades, and interbreeding and disease transmission risk between Maine lobsters and European lobsters is relatively low,” Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker wrote in a letter to EU director general for the environment Daniel Calleja Crespo, according to the editorial.
