BDN previews UMaine Museum of Art summer exhibits

The Bangor Daily News reported on two exhibitions slated to open May 13 at the University of Maine Museum of Art in downtown Bangor. Married artists Alisa Henriquez and Thomas Berding will both have displays at the museum through Sept. 10. “Remnant States,” is composed of more than 40 abstract paintings by Berding ranging from large canvases to a variety of smaller compositions, each with vibrant color and visible movement, according to the article. Henriquez’s exhibition, “The Constructed Body,” acts as commentary, addressing socially constructed ideals of beauty while exploring history, belief and notions of self, the article states. In addition to displaying the work of Henriquez and Berding this summer, UMMA will feature “What’s the Big Idea: Small Paintings from the Museum Collection,” as well as works selected and curated by UMMA’s young curators in “Distorted Perceptions: UMMA’s Young Curators.”
