Segal included in Metro article on 30th anniversary of Challenger disaster

Howard Segal, a history professor at the University of Maine, was interviewed by Metro for an article about commemorating the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on its 30th anniversary. When asked how safe space programs are now, Segal said they are safe as long as the don’t involve humans. “The real problem, of course, is that most Americans, among others, no longer care about exploring outer space and the huge costs involved. Also, most Americans, at least, don’t want the government to spend huge sums on space programs, unlike, say, the 1960s with President Kennedy,” he said.
