Registration open for after-school French program

The University of Maine Franco American Studies program is taking registrations for the spring 2016 semester of a new after-school program for children.

The program, which aims to make learning French fun in a safe environment, is designed for those with minimal or no experience with the language.

Classes will be held starting the week of Jan. 18 — with the exception of Martin Luther King Jr. Day — at the Old Town and Orono elementary schools. The 14-week program will be held in Old Town on Mondays and Wednesdays, and in Orono on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes will not be held during February and April school breaks.

Claude de Lannee, originally from Paris with a master’s degree in art education, is the program’s lead teacher. Several UMaine students also will help with the program.

Registrations from children in nearby areas will be accepted until Jan. 15. Cost to attend is $180. More information, including how to register, is available online or by contacting Susan Pinette at spinette@maine.edu, 581.3791.
