Republican Journal previews World Climate simulation at Hutchinson Center
The Republican Journal previewed an interactive simulation of World Climate Negotiations to be held 5–8 p.m. May 9 at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center in Belfast. UMaine Climate Change Institute graduate students Anna McGinn and Will Kochtitzky; and Molly Schauffler, a faculty member with the School of Earth and Climate Sciences and Hutchinson Center; will facilitate the simulation activity, which is free and open to the public. Participants will learn how climate negotiations work, and experience how negotiators interact and what decisions they need to make in order to agree on commitments that will reduce global carbon emissions sufficiently to meet the Paris agreement goal of keeping global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius, the article states. The event is a collaboration among the Hutchinson Center, the School for Policy and International Affairs, the Climate Change Institute and the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition.
