Linda Silka Receives 2018 Rising Tide Career Recognition Award
Linda Silka, Senior Fellow at the Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions, is the recipient of UMaine’s 2018 Rising Tide Career Recognition Award and was honored Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in Stodder Hall.
Throughout her career, Silka has sought to translate knowledge into action by engaging academic institutions and diverse stakeholders to solve persistent and emerging sustainability challenges. A social and community psychologist, professor emerita of economics, and retired director of the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center where she served as editor of the Maine Policy Review, Silka has had a significant and sustained impact on environmental health and economic policy development in Maine, and beyond.
Silka continues her efforts to align academic research with community needs, and to deploy participatory stakeholder engagement strategies that advance sustainability science through citizen involvement. Her efforts to build a scholarship of engagement is reflected in her extensive writings on the challenges and opportunities related to building university-community research partnerships, and the continued demand for her expertise in developing, seeking funding for, and leading similar collaborative, community-based projects.
