Richard Parks Anderson and Karin M. Anderson Music Composition Fund
The Richard Parks and Karin M. Anderson Music Composition Fund was established at the University of Maine Foundation in 2019 for the benefit of the University of Maine, Orono, Maine, with a gift from Richard Parks Anderson and his wife, Karin M. Anderson. The fund is intended to be an affiliated fund of the University of Maine McGillicuddy Humanities Center (MHC). Richard Parks Anderson, Class of 1973 (Journalism), founder and CEO of Richard Parks Furniture, Inc., retired, now composes music for classical guitar. Dr. Karin Margret Anderson, psychiatrist/neurologist, practiced in Hamburg/Germany, before she moved to Maine.
The principal shall be endowed and the distributions, as established by the University of Maine Foundation Board of Directors, shall be used to provide financial assistance to the School of Performing Arts’ Music Division in support of the composition of musical works by UMaine students and faculty and performances by UMaine faculty and students of those works and other works by living composers. In the event that funds are used for student support, the Chair of the Music Division shall provide the Office of Student Financial Aid with the recipients’ names, student support provided, and student expenses covered by the fund.
The donors intend for the fund to be permanently endowed so that the principal shall not be invaded under any circumstances for distributions from the fund.
Should it ever become impossible or impractical to carry out the purposes of this fund as described above, an alternative purpose that best fits the donors’ intent and wishes shall be designated by the Board of Directors of the University of Maine Foundation in its sole discretion after consulting with the President of the University of Maine.
The Chair of the Music Division of the School of Performing Arts, in consultation with the Director of the McGillicuddy Humanities Center, shall administer the distributions from the fund. When funds are used for scholarships, awards, and/or prizes, the Chair of the Music Division shall administer the fund in consultation with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
