Lucas Bourget
My name is Lucas Bourget. Between 2013-2015, I studied secondary education. Over time, my true interest tended to gravitate towards history courses. Studying history allowed myself to engage in academics in a way I never felt I would. In my experience and observation, the humanities has received a collective disapproval from my peers and various other disciplines. Many deem the humanities to be “a waste of time”, and a fruitless pursuit. I have always felt that the skills students learn in the humanities have long been over shadowed and underestimated. When I heard about the Engaged Black Bear badge initiative and it’s aims, I knew I wanted to become a part of it. I experienced a sense of relief, and a great deal of excitement knowing that I could play a role in breaking accepted generalizations, as well as fostering a new sense of pride and encouragement to study the humanities.
